This memorable tour goes through the rebuild process of the city with amazement and wonder at the city's ability to bounce back after the devastating 1931 Earthquake. The speed and accuracy of the process have resulted in the quaint streets and Art Deco architecture you see today. The Art Deco theme emulated from the popular European Art Deco style. Napier architects of the time, including Louis Hay and others, used this as an initial concept and, during the process, put their own spin on it to include Maori motifs, Mayan influences and impressive architraves. All the while these buildings were being fortified to withstand another Earthquake should it occur. This tour includes music of the era to immerse you in the time while you hear tales of the rebuild process. You will be guided down the quaint streets of this port city where you will see memorable architecture, impressive statues and learn about the members of the community who were involved in recreating Napier into a more fascinating and exciting city than it initially was.
